JOB TITLE: CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER
DEPARTMENT: ADMINISTRATION (on-site)
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt, Part-time - 24 hours/week - $27 - $30/hour
REPORTS TO: Township Supervisor (In the absence of a Township Manager)
SUPERVISES: No supervisory responsibilities
The Township of Scio is a general law township located on the west side of Ann Arbor in Washtenaw County and offers a family-friendly environment. JOB SUMMARY:
The position will conduct on-site inspections throughout the township to determine compliance with local codes, ordinances, and standards pertaining to health, welfare and safety. The position will investigate potential violations and follow established procedures for achieving abatement and compliance where warranted. The position will also maintain related records and perform other related duties.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all the duties which the employee may be expected to perform. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
1. Skill in interpreting, applying and enforcing related codes and ordinances.
2. Ability to maintain complaint logs, write violation reports, and warning letters using standard office software.
3. Follow up with residents on complaints.
4. Create and provide monthly update reports for the Board of Trustees.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES and QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma or the equivalent.
2. State of Michigan Vehicle Operator’s License.
3. Thorough knowledge and understanding of locally adopted ordinances, and principles and practices of code enforcement and site inspections.
4. Experience with local code enforcement, police department, fire department, and or building inspection/code review preferred. (2 Years)
5. Knowledge of the legal system and liability issues as they relate to code enforcement.
6. Skill in interpreting, applying, and enforcing related codes and ordinances.
7. Skill in MS Office Suite and standard software.
8. Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgement, initiative and resourcefulness when dealing with property owners, the public, other professional contacts, and municipal officials.
9. Ability to maintain logs, write violation reports and warning letters.
10. Create monthly update reports for the board of trustees.
11. Receiving and following up with residents on complaints.
12. Experience helpful but not required in BS&A.

The noise level in the work environment can range from quiet to loud.
