Scio Township Assessing Department
The Assessing Department is responsible for accurately identifying and determining the value of all taxable real and personal property located within Scio Township for the purpose of taxation. To accomplish this assignment, we collect and maintain accurate ownership records, legal descriptions, land and building information, parcel and related maps, sales and other transfers of property, and principal residence statuses.
Most of this information is readily accessible to the public on-line. If you wish to see your personal assessment information, visit our Look Up My Property Tax page. Scio does not currently publish its parcel maps on-line, but does share these maps with Washtenaw County, who publishes them as part of their MapWashtenaw service. We have implemented the attached policy here (please note our hours of operation), by the Department of Treasury for inspection or review of public records.
Each year assessment notices are sent to every property within the Township. If you would like to discuss your property's Classification, Value of Assessment or Qualified Agricultural Exemption prior to the March Board of Review, please contact a member of our Assessing Department.
More important than anything else the Assessing Department does, however, is to provide competent and courteous service to all of our customers. If you would like to inspect records or discuss any property tax matter, please contact our office at the main Township number, (734) 369-9400 during regular business hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Assessor will respond to e-mails and voicemails left within 7 business days, but strives to answer them within 48 hours. If the Assessor is out of the office for an extended period of time, a member of the Assessing Department will reply to your inquiry.
