Peddlers' Permits

In Scio Township, a Peddlers and Solicitors Permit is required by Ordinance (Sec. 12.20) and must be obtained by anyone “traveling either by foot, motor vehicle or any other type of conveyance, from place to place, seeking to obtain orders for the purchase of goods or services for future delivery or performance, or seeking donations of money or goods."  The term “solicitor” includes “any driver of a vehicle used for soliciting.”  The Clerk’s office issues a Permit to an applicant when a complete application has been submitted.   This information is also shared with the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s office in the event that a resident calls with concerns.

Applications are separate for Exempt and Non-Exempt solicitors. Exempt individuals and organizations are farmers; non-profit civic and religious organizations; and veterans’ organizations, and are not charged an application fee.
