Zoning Board of Appeals
Every community in the State of Michigan that has adopted a zoning ordinance is required to establish a Zoning Board of Appeals. The ZBA is termed a “judicial” or “quasi-judicial” body. There are several types of disputes typically included in the Zoning Board of Appeals’ job description for dispute resolution. The different types of decisions are related to:
- Interpretation of the Ordinance text or map
- Appeal of administrative decisions
- Dimension (non-use) variance requests
- Other specific duties associated with Ordinance nonconformities
The ZBA meets in person to hear and decide upon cases in the Meeting Room at the Township Hall, and the public may attend in person or virtually, using the methods described in the meeting Agenda. The submittal deadline is the 5th Thursday before the meeting. All persons may be heard on the record in the ZBA meetings, or by submitting written communications to the Township, which will be made part of the record and which will be available to the ZBA if received by the Township 2 days before the hearing date.
