Our current single fire station and team are tasked with protecting a community twice the size it was originally equipped to serve. The Nov 5 ballot proposal seeks to authorize 2.7 mills to replace the current 1.35 mills for 12 years, beginning in 2025. This strategic plan to extend and improve services will yield:

  • Enhanced Response Times: Proximity to a fire station directly affects response times. Our goal is to achieve a 6-minute response time from dispatch to incident scene. A second fire station and additional staffing will enable us to respond to more than 95% of our calls within our response-time goal of 6 minutes.
  • Meet Industry Standards: Additional firefighters, improved training practices, and updated equipment will ensure that we exceed current mandated industry protocols.
  • Reduced Risk: Meeting industry standards serves to improve our department’s Insurance Services Office (ISO) rating which reflects increased safety for everyone, including career firefighter staff, while potentially lowering insurance costs.

Presentation on Fire Services Expansion
Background: "At a previous Board of trustees meeting, Trustee Brazeau and I were asked to develop a business plan to present to voters in anticipation of a fall 2024 assessment vote for the same. We consulted with David Read, Chair of Fire Services Guidance Committee, and others to develop this document. Attached is that plan as well as a brief PowerPoint presentation which outlines the reduction in scope of the plan and associated reduction of costs. Additionally included is the last 5 years revenues and expenditures and an estimate for the next 16 years prepared by the Township's contracted finance staff." - Andy Houde, Fire Chief
